Crafts for Orthodox Youth: Saint John the Baptist

This series of crafts were used during our arts and crafts time with our campers at our metropolis Orthodox summer camp this summer. Our campers were divided into three groups:  Juniors (ages 8-10), Intermediates (ages 11-13), and Seniors (ages 14-18). The Juniors and Intermediates really enjoyed eating a snack while listening to a daily story – especially since they were usually coming from a field activity and this gave them an opportunity to sit and relax for a minute before beginning the craft.

Juniors and Intermediates

Snack & Story:

The children ate honey comb while listening to the story of Saint John the Baptist from the Bible.

Crafts:

The children had a choice between making a message pad (St. John is referred to as a messenger) or a pencil holder.

Materials Used:  (For message pad) pre-cut wood slate, paint, paint brush, foam sticker cross, bee clothespin, glue, computer paper, and markers

(For pencil holder) tube with a bottom purchased at craft store, paint, decorative jewels, bee stamps, markers
