Illumination Learning was created to become a hub for finding Orthodox Christian educational resources for home, school, and parish use. I have had many friends and family ask me over the years where they could find different Orthodox resources and items on the Internet. Some of these resources are easily found through search engines while the smaller businesses or individual blogs are discovered mostly by word of mouth. I had created my own list of links over the years and shared it with others often. Illumination Learning was born out of a desire to share this list of resources with as many others as possible. I am continually updating these resources and they are available for everyone on Illumination Learning. Please help our resource list grow by submitting additional resources on Illumination Learning.
Several years ago, my husband and I were blessed with the opportunity to visit Hagia Sophia (Church of Holy Wisdom) in Constantinople, Turkey. The name I chose for the website – Illumination Learning – was inspired by our trip to this amazing church.
When the Muslims took over Hagia Sophia, they covered up all the iconography and crosses with other designs or writing. As you can see in the photo above, the crosses were bleeding through the cover up designs on the ceiling. I wanted to use this cross as the inspiration for my logo. Without saying a word, the ceiling spoke volumes – despite all the persecution…despite all efforts to cover up the Orthodox faith in the church…the crosses illuminated the ceiling professing their message to all who journeyed far and wide to see this magnificent church.
